Replace a missing Microsoft Wireless Mouse Transceiver

Microsoft makes some great peripheral hardware. I personally have a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 and Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500. I grabbed both of them on sale, and have used them profusely for over a year now. My favorite feature is their "Nano Transceiver," which fits right in my desktop keyboard's built in hub, as well as my laptop, without sticking out to be broken off. Earlier this month, I lost my 3500's transceiver.

When searching for more information about the transceivers, I found that each transceiver is paired with a wireless device from factory, and that there is no way to pair another transceiver with a device. At this point, I decided to contact Microsoft. It took some hunting, but I sent an email out to a support representative, and he is sending me out an entirely new mouse/transceiver pair! This will work for you as well, just do the following:

1. Start by going to this Microsoft Product Support page.

2. In the search box, type the name of your mouse(eg. Wireless Mobile Mouse 3500) and hit Enter

3. In the following window, enter your mouse PID. The PID is located beneath the barcode on your mouse. You need this to continue. Without it, there will be no luck in getting a new mouse.

4. Choose the last option, "Don't use a professional support licence/contract (charges may apply)." Don't worry, you will not be charged.

5. Choose the E-mail option and click Continue

6. Compose your E-mail. Be as polite as possible. A little courteousness goes a long way.

7. Fill in your contact information, and be sure to check your email.

Later that day, I received an email from Support Representative Rahul, who said he could go ahead and submit a replacement order for me, once I confirmed my mailing address and PID.
The final email from The MS Hardware Technical Support Team
As always, your mileage may vary, but hopefully this gets you set off in the right direction, and saves you from ordering a new mouse.

  1. I tried your solution but when I enter the product name (wireless mobile mouse 6000), I just get taken to a screen with a support phone no and hours of operation, i.e. I'm not taken to the screen to enter the PID. Any idea how I can get to that screen? Do you have the URL by any chance?

    Thanks,
    Ray

  9. I called today and got the same thing, a support number. I called it and explained that my transceiver was taken with my laptop when I lost my job a couple weeks ago. They could only offer me a new mouse at a discounted price of $14.95 + $5 s&h, which actually isn't bad, but I have other mice and I'd hoped to keep this one.

  11. Microsoft does not replace lost or damaged USB dongles even in their parts and fulfillment center. I have never purchased something from such a well known company with so poor support. When I use to work with NEC, they were mandated by the US government to support their products for several years.

  12. I called MS Store for support and got to a replacement support person who said if I had my proof of purchase (i bought it and a MS SurfacePro2 and keyboard) at BestBuy local store, and sent them the receipt or credit card statement in PDF format via email; that they would send me a replacement mouse and receiver. I would also have to send them back the mouse. Seems alot of work for a $40-60 mouse, and it is actually time wise, but it will make my coupon clipping wife happy that I did so.

My experience with computer giant's customer support is that its designed with a certain level of hassle factor so that only the determined will be successful and the impatient whiners wont be. WHen I returned a HP multimedia PC some 5 years ago, I went through over 40 hours of going through countless customer support people, debugging scripted routines (most were worthless, as Im an electrical engineer and I know exactly what was wrong and they wouldnt listen to me), had to escalate through their management, and eventually I got my computer replaced.

I can honestly tell you that only my experience with Apple was amazing. I had an used MacBookPro 17" laptop whose video card died when I shut the lid whilst it was running. It overheated and killed the graphics chip. Even though it was just barely past the warantee time, they replaced the graphics PCB for only the labor cost of like $90, other wise it would have been a $1000 repair. Amazing.

Microsoft did OK this time with the Arc Touch Mouse missing Nano USB transceiver, but it took persistence, website research, many phone call cycles, and finally got the right guy who wanted to help me.

Hang in there people, and remember the other person on the phone is a person regardless what country or accent they have. Be nice if you want great support.

  14. Sold as is (disclosed missing dongle and impaired functionality; I'm not dishonest unlike ms). Bought new logitech keyboard with builtin touchpad.

Microsoft ought to have sold a dongle keyable from ordering page. An arc keyboard paperweight is NOT amusing.

  15. blog writers.... what a waste. first of all this guy uses a MAC (smart.) Second anyone who has ever gone to Best Buy knows Logitech is the way to go for wireless keyboards and mice. They have a universal transceiver that fits all of their wireless products so its just one for the keyboard and mouse and if you lose it, you have an extra one as they provide one dongle for every device (but you only need one). Microsoft totally sucks and this writer knows it.

Best laptop mouse I've ever used, work on any surface, even bed sheets. It gives you a true meaning of plug and play, I've been swapping it at work from computers to laptops and wiseversa and it gets detected in seconds.

  17. I had the same Issue withMM3000 no Nano it disappeared, I m really mad because Microsoft doesn't stand behind their Products. Even with a PID# I won't use their Products again.

  19. I have (had) the MWM6000 and same as y'all, the dongle melted. I called:
Microsoft support phone number (800) 933-4750
She asked when/where I purchased it, asked the model # and in less than 5 minutes the delightful support person hooked me up with a replacement MWM4000 that should be here in less than 7 days.

Totally unexpected results that I'm very happy with! Good luck, all!

  21. I just called to order a replacement receiver for my wireless keyboard and mouse, and was told that since I didn't have proof of purchase, I would have to spend $30+, and an additional $7-8, which covers the replacement fee, tax, and shipping. This really sucks, when all I need is a replacement receiver!

  27. A Microsoft mouse brand can be so efficient to use in our device like PCs. I've been using the Razer DeathAdder Chroma and it last until now. It has cool features and I could say that it has a key control that work very fine.

  28. Microsoft should cut the corporate crap and start making feasible products. It is unacceptable to buy an 125 euros mouse and keyboard kit and spend a minimum 2 weeks to get a replacement just because they are too greedy to make an universal wireless dongle like Logitech does for all their products.
